2020 Songwriting Competition

While sadly there will be no formal Portsmouth Maritime Folk Festival this September, we are determined to bring it back in 2021. To keep the PMFF spirit alive, we have decided that THE 4th ANNUAL PMFF SONGWRITING COMPETITION will happen this year (2020)!

The songwriters must perform their own songs, although they can do so with supporting musicians. Entrants are asked to record their songs and send them, along with the lyrics, the songwriter/performer’s name, and contact information to me nicknoble@wicn.org. If recording is not possible, we can arrange a Zoom opportunity for performing the song for judges if necessary.

The deadline for submissions will be August 31.

The judges will review the entries and announce the winner(s) in September.  If there are a great many submissions, the judges may host a virtual “concert” featuring finalists before the final decision. The winning singer/songwriter will be invited to perform the winning song at a Zoom concert in September and also live at the 2021 Festival (along with that year’s winner).

We are looking for songs with a MARITIME THEME, and the judges will be considering quality of lyrics, originality of music, and appropriateness of maritime-related theme.
