Steve Turner is known as a pioneer of highly sophisticated English concertina song
accompaniments, stretching the boundaries of traditional forms, with one of the
best voices in the business. As a multi-instrumentalist, he also accompanies himself
on the cittern, and plays mandolin and banjo.
He started playing in the 70’s and following a 13 year break he made a welcome
return in 2004, producing his 5 th album, the highly acclaimed “Whirligig of Time”
which featured Martin Carthy, Nancy Kerr and Miranda Sykes.
Since then he has released further albums, “Rim of the Wheel” and “Spirit of the
Game”, with his latest 8 th album “Late Cut” released in January 2019. “Late Cut”
features Eliza Carthy, Martin Simpson and Sam Carter and Steve feels it is his best
album to date.
Steve kicked off 2019 with a tour of Australia in January, followed by many gigs and
festivals covering the length and breadth of the UK and a tour of USA in the autumn.
